Empty Pockets

I reached the end of the longest road
And found a tollbooth there
Asking each who tried to cross
To pay a handsome fare
I dug in pockets that once were full
In search of something round
But empty hands came out the same
No payment could be found … More Empty Pockets

Every Other Line: An Ode to Type One

Every other line of the dialogue in my head
Is criticism both of me and from me
Not quite good enough or strong enough yet
Attempting to make something lovely
Afraid of myself, haunted more by my shadow
Unaffected by most of the horrors
Inner critic is raging, impatient and thorough
Yet always the champion of others … More Every Other Line: An Ode to Type One

Wind-Up Toy

When suddenly, one day, it was quiet her mind
She heard a strange thumping noise, familiar and kind
A wind-up toy that found herself suddenly unwound
Could hear, or feel, an almost undetectable sound
Pounding in a chest more used to hearing cymbals clang

But I had no idea how much it would hurt to feel
How can I keep singing with this pain inside my chest?
Will anyone sing with me this song of brokenness?” … More Wind-Up Toy

The Calm In Me

How long will I be seasick?
We’ve been at this for days

Where to go to catch these men
In this great big blue
But everything seems harder now
Each task made more complex
By the ups and downs of all the waves
And water on the decks  … More The Calm In Me

Like A Spider

How like a spider am I
Weaving a web to trap my loves
Too lazy to go out and get them
Too distrustful to let them come to me
Too hungry to let them live
Too tired to lure them in
How like a spider am I
Wrapping my loves up tight
Keeping them close
Keeping them stuck
Not letting them leave me
Not letting them love me … More Like A Spider
